Spencer Day - Christmas With You

4 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!

Mr Spencer Day may be one of the most vibrant and exciting jazz singers around right now (certainly up there with the amazing Matt Dusk). Imagine my delight when, after spending the last six months obsessed with his very good indeed Daybreak album, he finally releases a festive follow up to his previous Christmas song If Christmas Doesn't Kill Me. This time he's teamed up with the Joel Evans Big Band for a track called Christmas With You - the title already sounds more positive than his last festive foray :) The music instantly transports you to the set of those glorious Hollywood musicals of yesteryear (Holiday Inn, Meet Me In St Louis, White Christmas et al) with it's timeless nature that transcends trends and gimmicks, relying instead on good old reliable melody and exquisite song composition. It's an ebullient, rousing score that is (as always) the perfect backdrop for Spencer's mellifluous and engaging tones to tell us the story of preparing the perfect Christmas with his loved one. It's both joyful AND triumphant with Spencer being the most perfect raconteur of romance at the most wonderful time of year - it's an invitation that would be pretty darn hard to resist with his lists of tried and tested holiday traditions with only the thought of being together on the big day making his Christmas complete. It's enough to make you a) want to hug your speakers as you are naturally imbued with an endorphin rush of Christmas spirit and b) run and hug those who matter to you because emotions always seem heightened in the run up to the 25th & it's never too late to show people how much you care. It's the type of song that will sound great year after year, becoming part of your holiday memories and indeed a tradition on it's very own merit. Bravo young man - now if we could have a full Christmas album next year that would be blooming marvelous :)
