Katy Perry - Every Day Is A Holiday

Hurrah! Katy Perry, she of the impeccable pop back catalogue of catchy hits, has teamed up with quite good indeed clothes store H&M to provide the soundtrack to their holiday commercial. I suspect it will also be the soundtrack to many sparkling holiday moments for thousands of people across the globe because she's crafted an indelibly unshakeable hook (no shaking this off) that is both joyful AND triumphant. It's called Every Day Is A Holiday and, quite simply, it's making me happy and merry (in my brown H&M chinos with the braces/suspenders - depending if you are in UK or USA when you read this. I'm multi-lingual). Set to a positively percolating beat that's frothier than the foam on your seasonal drink from your favourite coffee emporium, Katy sings of how finding love has made her whole life shimmy with radiant glee - so much so that she experiences the giddy highs and excitement of Christmas day, every day. Can't argue with that. She sounds positively soaring on the song, imbuing it with her own sense of magical charm that is all too hard to resist. That chorus is a gift from Santa himself and surely one we will all be singing well into the New Year (and probably find ourselves secretly humming it in July). It all collides to leave a feeling of exuberant elation - taking you beyond cloud 9 because it's just that exhilarating. One can't forget the visuals in the commercial where every Christmas memory you have ever had from parades and store displays and Christmas trees and holiday movies explodes in a cavalcade of glorious colours. Elves, toy soldiers, dancing trees, snow angels - it's a visual feast that has you gorging on it all yet still wanting more, more, more. Oh and the briefly topless hunk, who looks better in a Christmas sweater than I ever will? The icing on your Christmas stollen!
