Straight No Chaser ft Jana Kramer - Feels Like Christmas
34 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!

There is no denying that Straight No Chaser have bought a cappella magic and ingenuity to the holiday season for many years now. One stand out (in a career full of them) was teaming up Veronica Mars herself, Kristen Bell, on the modern day classic Text Me Merry Christmas (review link below). That song put a contemporary spin on the "I'll be home for Christmas" conundrum with wit, charm and sass. It will probably sound historic in 50 years time when we are all communicating in algorithms via iBrain energy (patent pending), but that won't make the song any less endearing or enduring. This year, they've done it again on their new single Feels Like Christmas. Taken from their devilishly delicious new holiday offering, I'll Have Another... Christmas Album, the vocal only group have teamed up with Jana Kramer to deliver a lovely, languorous slice of soulful Yuletide melody. It starts with a slowed-down intro that really accentuates the intricate vocal arrangements and allows for the gloriously smooth lead vocal to guide you through (what seems like) a melancholy opening to the number. The vocal beats then up the tempo, and the lyrics are wrapped in the sounds of jingling bells, crisp percussion and gloriously harmonised voices that conjure up images of swirling around in the first snow fall of winter. The narrative of the song becomes a buoyant celebration of love - and how, much like Christmas, it heightens the senses so that every day together does indeed (as the lyrics state) feel like Christmas. Jana's sweet country-tinged tones make a pleasing contrast to the yearning soul, an ebullient, expressive performance that brings out the giddy glee of the lyrics as much as the soulful passion of the lead brings out the heartfelt sincerity. It all comes together to give the listener a joyful, rousing chorus that leaves you feeling both merry and bright; a song that will take you through the festive season but is surely worthy of being bought out all year round on those days you need a pick me up. Just an exhilarating romp that leaves you sparkling.
