3 WEEKS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!

Hamilton (the musical) is just endlessly giving. The story of America's founding fathers continues to play to sold out audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, while the soundtrack is a perennial best seller. On top of this, every year for the past three years the cast have contributed a Christmas song to the Carols For Cure collection, curated by Broadway Cares. The proceeds from this go towards the administration of essential social services programmes such as he HIV/AIDS Initiative, the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative and the Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic (so you are not only getting some great new music but helping an essential cause). This year, the Hamilton squad have taken on the evergreen classic What Child Is This and made it sound like it was lifted straight from a deleted scene in the musical (if such things existed). That is really one of the joys of these Hamilton cast contributions - you can always envisage the characters singing the songs in the setting of the show. It starts with a vocal riff session set to sparse percussion before immersing the listener into sumptuous horns and delicately intertwined voices. It adds (ironically) a regal aura to the song before shimmying into a jazz-tinged score that highlights the majesty of the words. Another seasonal treat from the show which will last way longer than just this holiday season.
