56 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!

Turns out 2020 is the year Christmas comes early - before Hallowe'en, before Thanksgiving and before Black Friday. This isn't a complaint - I'm all for celebrating the season 60 days of the year and this year is the biggest bumper crop of seasonal songs released before Hallowe'en that I can remember. Adding to that impressive list is Carly Rae Jepsen and her Christmas hopes vs Christmas reality single It's Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries. There is no doubt that Carly is one of the most accomplished purveyors of fine pop out there right now and this festive gem is an excellent addition to her discography. It is a fine juxtaposition of the vibrant, radiant jingles of a Christmas score balanced with the searing honesty of the lyrics. The former is a lush slice of synth driven electronica, infused with bells and angelic backing vocals whilst Carly tells a story of all the disappointments that the most wonderful time of the year can bring. She delivers punchlines with acerbic wit whilst ensuring there is a finger-clicking, sing-along hook that will stay in your (egg) noggin until new year. Play alongside her melancholic take on Wham's Last Christmas for the full experience of how heightened emotions can take you on a roller coaster sleigh ride. Brilliant.
