Gwen Stefani's You Make It Feel Like Christmas is the gift that keeps on giving. Originally released in the winter of 2017, she then added a glittering five new tracks (best of which was the gleeful Cheer For The Elves) a year later. Even if that had been it, Ms Stefani had crafted a sensational seasonal opus which had a song for every occasion during the most wonderful time of the year - an instant classic that has already become a Christmas playlist favourite. In a splendid surprise move, the album is being revisited one more time this year with the addition of two brand new songs - one standard and one glorious new original. Both seamlessly sit alongside the songs you already know and love from the album. Hey, as long as Gwen wants to celebrate all things holly and jolly, I'll be listening...
- Here This Christmas ~ this lush mid-tempo ballad is the theme to Hallmark's Countdown To Christmas; a convergence of Christmas magnificence so potent it could light up the Rockefeller Tree from now until Boxing Day! Written with Ryan Tedder, this launches into a shimmering, jingling gem with vivid lyrics which paint a picture of winter wonderlands. Gwen sings with a tangible longing of wanting to be with her loved one as the big day rolls around and, drenched in sumptuous strings, percolating percussion and brassy horns, sends that epic chorus soaring higher than the brightest star in the firmament. Joyful AND triumphant!
- Sleigh Ride ~ this indelible classic is a playful romp that somehow manages to have clip-clop rhythmic percussion as well as buoyant piano which feels like snowflakes dancing on the wintry breeze. Its a giddy canter of a song which manages to be both familiar and surprising at the same time. Gwen sounds like she's having an absolute hoot singing the song - and the merriment is contagious. Those layered harmonies make it feel like you are at a convivial sing-along, even if you are currently socially distanced. Bringing people together in 2020? Sounds like a winner to me!
