Don't tell my heart (my achey-breaky heart) but turns out all I want for Christmas is Cody Belew - or more specifically his riveting new festive line dance single, Hang Your Hat On My Christmas Tree. One of the most exciting things about my all-consuming love of Christmas music is discovering artists I might not otherwise been aware of - and Cody is what my mum would call "a bobby dazzler" of a discovery. He's whipped up a ho-ho-hoedown of a country music seasonal song, fuelled by riotous guitar riffs, hand clap beats, exhilarating fiddle and boot scooting boogie of a percussive beat that makes you want to grab the one you love and party. It is such a vibrant instrumental that you can't help but feel a frisson of excitement from the moment it kicks in until long after the last note fades. Cody himself delivers a growlingly seductive vocal, full of sassy romantic intention with his double-entendre of a hook in that emanently sing-along chorus. Throw in a smattering of some honky tonk piano and you'll find yourself utterly lassoed by this festive flirt of a song. Recommended to me by a friend (thanks Ricky!), this is the type of song that gains momentum from word of mouth - so listen, love and tell everyone you've ever met about it.
