I love that a Kenny Loggins song from 1977 has become a seasonal standard - if only for the opening line "Home for the holidays". Celebrate Me Home has become a Christmas favourite, however, not just for that line but because of the sentiment it conveys through the heartfelt lyrics. It has been covered by many artists but Josh Groban still manages to put his own spin on the 1970s standard. It is a track from his upcoming non-seasonal album Harmony which means you'll be justified in spinning this all year long whenever you need a pick me up. It is a vintage Mr Groban style track - the type of production that makes you feel like this was meant for him all along. His passionate vocal is buoyed by a gorgeous piano accompaniment and sweeping strings whilst dramatic percussion emphasises the majesty of the lyrics. There is some lovely use of hammond organ which makes it feel like a modern day hymn, something those stunning gospel backing vocalists accentuate like angels we have heard on high. It is the most inspiring, uplifting sermon that makes the listener feel an intimate part of the congregation. Not the most obvious of Christmas songs but the endorphin boost we all need right now.
