39 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!
Buy-stream All Is Bright here (Bandcamp)
I'm always looking for new recommendations for Christmas music - and it is an added bonus when I fall hard for the artist's non-seasonal fare as well. And fall hard I have for the gorgeous compositions of one Mr Justin Utley. We come from similar backgrounds (I was raised LDS as well before coming out in my early twenties) so his album, Scars, speaks to me in all sorts of ways that I wasn't quite prepared for but can't help but appreciate (his story on The Mighty website breaks my heart). His Christmas single continues his ability to convey with searing insight and palpable emotion the tough journeys we all face, particularly over the past pandemic filled 12 months. All Is Bright is all about the redemptive power of love and be with the ones who mean the most to you can help you sparkle as fiercely as the brightest star in the heavens. Effusive guitar seems to represent the determination to get through the dark times whilst the peppy percussion mirrors the fervent enthusiasm of the lyrics. It is Justin's impassioned vocal performance that is the beating heart of the song, however, drawing you into his hopeful message. Clever use of Christmas phrases make this a future seasonal standard but quite honestly you could play it all year round.
