Måns Zelmerlöw should be no stranger to your holiday music playlist. His Christmas With Friends album is a decade old this year and remains a big band, swinging good time each time the most wonderful time of the year rolls around. That album was filled with joyous highs as well as contemplative reflection. He is immersed in the latter style for his new Christmas single, All Alone On Christmas Eve. It is a lovely, melodic pondering of how life choices and fate can lead you down a certain path, and how the feelings of loneliness can be heightened at a time which promotes convivial gatherings and togetherness. Måns sings the poignant words with a sense of pathos and melancholy, accentuating the exquisite sadness of his situation. A sumptuous adult contemporary score surrounds his expressive vocals, where piano cascades like lights on the tree and percussion shimmies like the brightest of baubles. A soaring sax solo helps give the song an element of hope - as if singing through the ennui will perhaps lead us to a better tomorrow. Just charming.
