There is something magical about actual singing icon, Taylor Dayne, tackling both an American songbook standard and a much loved Christmas favourite. Her elegant take on I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm is just the burst of euphoric happy we all need as a reward for getting through the global pandemic of 2020. Sure, I'm about 2 years late in discovering this song but I've always believed a holiday single is for life, not just the year it was released - and it will find you when you need it the most. That is certainly true of this little gem, and I was charmed by it the moment I heard it. The song actually hails from the glorious On The Avenue movie and, in the hands of Taylor, remains a timeless beauty. With graceful piano and a shimmering percussion, Taylor's expressive voice brings every word to life as she savours the lyrics she sings. She becomes a glamourous chanteuse of the most sophisticated club, in perfect symmetry with the band. Add in that radiant oboe (I think) solo in the middle 8 and the lilting, soaring final moments and it is like a hug from an old friend. Delightful.
