I'm pretty sure that Matt Dusk may be sneakily auditioning to be the next (much better dressed) Santa Claus. Early on his career he gifted us with his Peace On Earth EP and five years ago this very year he unleashed his sparkling Old School Yule collection; a selection box of holiday songs so opulent and grandiose that each was like a little bit of star light shining through to light up the season. Last Christmas, when we all needed a bit of festive cheer the most, he glittered up his version of Cool Yule and wrapped in a bow for all to appreciate. This year, in what I hope is now an annual tradition, he has yet another new track out - his own take on the Beach Boys classic Little Saint Nick. With a rollicking piano accompaniment, jingling percussion and vibrant horn blasts, Matt gives it a rat pack suave whilst bringing a choir of angels to give it some textured harmonies. It is all most joyful and triumphant, but the party atmosphere of the middle 8 with some ad-libbed chants make it the feel good pick me up we all deserve. Throw in a call and response section and it sends you soaring way past seventh heaven, all the way to cloud nine - about the height Santa's sleigh flies if I'm not mistaken. Splendid.
