Megan Nicole - Christmas Morning

How in the hecky thump am I only just discovering the dulcet tones and melodic music of Megan Nicole now? Still, better late than never that her new EP, Christmas Morning, caught my eye as I now have not only five tracks of festive fabulousness to dive into but a whole back catalogue of songs to explore too. Singer-songwriter Megan has crafted my kind of party with the Christmas Morning project, an escape from the stresses of every day life. It just makes everything better now; the music being a blend of old-time throw back with a contemporary sprinkle of glitter. 
  • Sleigh Ride ~ finger click, icy cool beats simmer under a charming vocal from Megan, while the chorus is swathed in sixties girl group backing vocals. It sets the scene for the EP beautifully, a mid-tempo groove that conjures up images of a wintery fairyland. Little doo-wop flourishes and a flirtacious flourish of strings helps add some fun factor to an already giddy thrill of a song. 
  • Christmas Morning ~ this is what my mum would call a bobby dazzler of a delightful new holiday song. It has a bouyant pace that is equally matched by an ebullient performance from Megan. There is merry and bright cheer baked right into the celebratory lyrics, with enough fa-la-la happiness to power Santa's sleigh all Christmas Eve. Looking for something sweet for the holidays?   • Jingle Bells ~ there is a quirky, off-kilter vibe to Jingle Bells that makes it such an intriguing (and enjoyable) proposition. An acoustic guitar shines as does a peppy beat that brings alive the magic of the lyrics. Props to Megan for full on embracing the enchantment of the song whilst making it feel relevant to the musical trends of the day. Get this on your Spotify playlist now!
  • Last Christmas ~ alongside All I Want For Christmas Is You, surely one of the most covered Christmas songs of the decade; and yet I am still in thrall to those (like Ms Nicole) who bring out something new. Chimes and synths create a surprisingly warm texture to the song while the emergence of a full wall of sound chorus is glorious as puppy playing in the snow for the first time. Hallmark holiday movie kiss off song next year for sure.
  • Christmas Wrapping ~ one of my favourite Yuletide bops gets the Megan Nicole treatment and it is both a nod to the original Waitresses version as well as enough nuance to make it feel completely consistent with the rest of this EP. Chanted moments enhance all the right words in the song and you are singing along in bawdy chorus with the infectious production. Now hit repeat and go and tell everyone you've ever met about this EP!
