It may well be that an American Authors Christmas album is the biggest inevitability in the next couple of years. For the second year in a row, they have released another amazing original number - and this year added a bobby dazzler of a cover version to slide into your playlist too. Following 2021's sparkling My Favourite Time Of Year, they have returned with the brilliant Christmas Karaoke - a convivial pub singalong of a song that, despite their American heritage, feels deliciously British to this Anglophile. All about hitting a bar with your best pals on the night before Christmas, having a good old fashioned sing song to the best Christmas hits of years gone by. Not only are there plenty of references to those very songs, it is addictive as Grandma's boozy Egg Nog thanks to the effusive chorus and kick-up-your-heels-and-dance vibes that emanates from every blooming note. Their take on the evergreen classic, Sleigh Ride, is equally as enticing. Jingling bells, party percussion and a guitar as exhilarating as any toboggan slide down the snowy hill all combine with the live vibe of the "whoa oh"; it all makes you want to chug a beer, grab the one you love and shimmy (and have a good ol' festive snog under the mistletoe too). Can't wait to see what they come up with next year!
