I've (love) actually written about the seasonal songs of excellent a cappella outfit VoicePlay many times on this very day (as the list of songs under Ghosts of Christmas Past at the bottom of this article will attest). I discovered the vocal talents of the lads ten whole years ago via their still sparkling Peppermint Winter album - and, with a few line up changes since that time, they still manage to bring magic and shimmer every single time. This year, the lads have teamed up with DeeJay Young on their version of the Chipmunks classic, Christmas Don't Be Late. Assigning each individual member of the cast as one of the legendary Chipmunks is a smart move - Layne takes the part of Dave, whilst Eli (Simon), Cesar (Theodore) and DeeJay (Alvin) bring the animated band to life. 

It will be no surprise to long time fans of the act that this feels like a full instrumental backing track is in effect, whereas it is just the innovation from those glorious vocal arrangements. Beats as propulsive as any sleigh ride power the song forward whilst textured harmonies intertwine as deliciously as cream melting into hot cocoa. Cesar and Deejay both bring soaring soul to the performance with vivid vocals that don't just sing the words but live every second. Geoff is on tap to bring the bass, both to the vox score and to his solo moments which resonate as deeply as reindeer hooves landing on your roof. It is both peppy and poppy, sing-along and seasonal - a fine addition to your holiday playlist. Now, go tell everyone you've ever met about it...
