Lindsey Stirling - Snow Waltz (Deluxe Edition 2023)

One of my favourite things about the most wonderful time of the year (and the music that accompanies it) is how many artists extend the magic of their mistletoe-drenched musical endeavours into Christmases beyond the original release. This is done through new tours, adding new songs and changing up the cover art. Lindsey Stirling, who dazzled last year with her Snow Waltz collection, has hit the hatrick of all three - I finally get to see her perform in the UK, and have begged a US friend to pop into US store Target for me to snag the exclusive deluxe edition of that very album. There are two new instrumentals to enjoy, plus the tones of that cover art is giving me candy coated realness that will keep this sweet collection of songs spinning until New Years...

Before I move on to the new songs, I have to revisit what has become my favourite holiday song of 2022. Lindsey's collab with Bonnie McKee, Crazy for Christmas, brilliantly encapsulates my feelings for the holiday season. It is so giddily infectious and full of joy that I can't help but play it multiple times - there's a playfulness to Bonnie's exuberant singing whilst Lindsey's violin dances around her, matching her energy note for note. What's interesting about Christmas music to me is that is easy to get caught up in the hype of the initial release - it is how the songs return to my playlists over the next few Christmases that make it a new classic. This is the greatest seasonal song that is just gonna last and last. Hey, I'm not crazy - I'm festive!

We Wish You A Merry Christmas is a beautifully slowed down take that builds in texture, pace and intensity as the instrumental progresses. It starts with a pensive, reflective vibe before transforming into a kick-up-your-heels, dance along, utterly exhilarating romp. It will have you believing a violin can talk! If that fits perfectly in some backstreet Victorian bar, then Yuletide Regale takes you to the palaces of Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton. There's an elegance and grace about it that transcends the ages, whilst also incorporating story telling and delectable drama that leaves you a little bit breathless. Real emotion beats like your heart thanks to the expressive performance and pulsing percussion. All the magic of the season wraps around you and you can't wait to Snow Waltz all the live long year with Ms Stirling.
