There is enough gloomy news in the world and more than enough sad songs to make you cry. One thing that Scouting for Girls do so well is provide songs that are happy and hopeful, whether they are chant-along bops or more introspective ballads. And I'll tell you something for free - those Scouting for Girls lads know how to keep Christmas well. They've contributed some rollicking festive musical adventures to the Great Christmas Songbook over the years (click here to find out more) - this year, they've adapted the title track of their new album, These Are The Good Days, to add some seasonal sentiment to an already charming number. The song is all about recognising the blessings and miracles in front of you, a little bit like George Bailey needed to do in It's A Wonderful Life. In this new stripped back version, the captivating singing takes on an aching quality, as if driven by a real need to impart wisdom of love, actually, being all around. The piano is an elegant accompaniment and a choir of angels sing the song whilst strings dance around light likes sparkling on the tree. There's a little bit of Christmas in the air and it is working its magic so that, if you need a little soothing and solace at this time of year, the SfG have the perfect musical spell to cast.
