32 DAYS TIL CHRISTMAS!!

While I aim to stay on top of new Christmas songs, I occasionally miss the odd gem from previous years. It's always a treat, however, when these songs are discovered through recommendations and tweets - like a surprise present under the tree! In this case, it's talented young singer Luke Towler and his lovely, languorous ballad Christmas Kiss. I've always felt that emotions - both good and sad - are heightened at the most wonderful time of the year, and that it's a time when unrequited love can contribute both to a feeling of hope yet one of aching loneliness. Luke does a rather fine job of capturing those sentiments on the self-penned Christmas Kiss. He expresses his wish to cement his relationship with that special someone and imbues his vocal with a sense of yearning that's almost tangible. He's accompanied by resonant piano chords that shimmer into a delicate melodic refrain that's as pretty as a snowflake falling from the cold winter's night. A shuffling percussion adds to the aura of this winter wonderland, setting pace like Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve. It all coalesces to provide a solid pop moment that reminds me of the halcyon days when acts like Spice Girls (Too Much), Steps (It's The Way You Make Me Feel) and S Club (Perfect Christmas) would tickle the top of the Christmas charts with enduring songs we still enjoy today. As a first introduction to Luke, this pleasing tune not only ensures I'll be reminiscing to all my Christmas crushes but also adding it as a seasonal standard for many Yuletide soundtracks to come. Now I'm off to check out his other tunes...
