Well, Christmas is often full of surprises and this one will surely cement Kristin Chenoweth's place on the nice list for a long time yet. While I'm still completely immersed in her marvellous new album, For The Girls, Kristin has teamed up with Steve Tyrell to release a brand new version of the festive evergreen, White Christmas. The timing is rather splendid - not just because the most wonderful time of the year is now upon us but because the musical of the same name opens in London this very week (see my review of last year's production here). This enchanting and elegant take on the song is more than enough to get you in the mood - to see the show, to watch the film, or just to luxuriate in the graceful sophistication of two of Broadway's biggest legends teaming up. The song is set to a glorious piano arrangement which seems to dance alongside the two vocalists like the most ornate snowflake on the delicate breeze; strings shimmer alongside caressing the melody with gentle affection. Both vocalists are emotive with their solo moments, bringing out the poignancy and hope within the lyrics. When their voices combine it is a genuine thrill that will ensure your season is both merry and bright. Play often and let the craziness outside halt just while you are bewitched by the mesmerising magic of this performance.
