40 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!

Let us not forget that, as part of the Spice Girls, Emma Bunton ruled the Christmas number one slot for three consecutive winters with the holy trinity of seasonal chart-toppers - 2 Become 1, Too Much and Goodbye (see here on myfizzypop). While not Christmas songs per se, they are so indelibly associated with the most wonderful time of year that you often hear them in stores and on radio as the big day (Santa's birthday) approaches. It is rather thrilling, therefore, that Ms Bunton follows up her splendid album My Happy Place (see review here on myfizzypop), with an equally delightful song, Coming Home For Christmas. There is an elegiac introduction to the song, thanks to a melancholy vocal, poignant guitar and delicate piano - with Emma singing of the sadness at being away from the ones she loves. She's not one to give up, however, and the song soon explodes into an optimistic romp where everything seems infused by the power of hope in Emma's ebullient vocal. The piano riff becomes a joyous dance whilst the guitar is effortlessly effusive, giving the music a sense of purpose and enthusiasm which is utterly contagious. When chiming bells are added to the texture of the song, the magic of Christmas really takes hold and you can't help but get swept up in the wonder of it all. Play loud, play often and share the tingling sensation of glee you get with everyone you've ever met...
