I do enjoy a new seasonal release from Marie Lind (whose 2016 album Christmas Time remains a favourite). Her marshmallow world view is one I can totally get on board with - and her latest single, Unwrap My Heart, is a vibrant declaration of love swathed in a glittering score and an irrepressibly hopeful hook. The perfect 3 minute pop song is a bit of a rarity these days but I always find I am more likely to discover it within the realms of Christmas music - a genre that eschews fads and trends to focus on delivering a full emotional impact (whether joyous or melancholy). Unwrap My Heart is like a vignette storyline from Love, Actually - the realisation that the magic of the holidays can make anything become possible if you just believe. From the decadent vocal chimes of the opening bars through to that thrilling sleigh ride-esque rhythmic beat, Marie immerses herself in a sumptuous instrumental which buoys her vocal as high as the brightest star in the heavens. She sings with such ebullient glee that her enthusiasm is contagious and you are soon shimmying along to this radiant riff. Girl group vocals make this feel like a lost gem from the Supremes era whilst that chorus has enough merriment to power Santa's sleigh all through Christmas Eve. Guaranteed to give you shivers of ecstasy from head to mistletoe.
