I am hopeful that Thomas Rhett dipping his toe into the warming pool of winter music signals that an entire Christmas album might be forthcoming from the affable chap at some Christmas future. His glorious debut (I think) into the genre of seasonal fare is via the original composition Christmas In The Country. It is an utterly charming tune that shimmies into existing via jingling bells and an engaging guitar riff; Thomas sings of all the wonders of celebrating the most wonderful time of the year away from the hustle and bustle of city life - and does so with such vivid descriptions that his words paint a picture of a winter wonderland as the song chugs along. The verses have this lovely laid back vibe which lets you savour every moment while the chorus seems to erupt in a sumptuous wall of sound that just heightens the splendour of the sing-along refrain. The addition of the "da doo da doo" as the hook merges back into the verses makes this a convivial romp that lifts your spirits and makes you feel merry and bright. He performs the entire track with such tangible affection that Christmas In The Country not only becomes you go-to holiday track - it is an inviting travel destination too.

While you are hot-footing across America to get to Christmas In The Country you may well want to pop Thomas' version of The Christmas Song on your stereo/i-Pod/new fangled streaming gizmo. He has taken the classic song and made it sound like it was just waiting for him to sing. The arrangement of the instrumental is rather lovely - hammond organ, sweeping strings and a decadent piano which just sparkles like the brightest star in the sky. He guides the indelible words with a sense of honest sincerity that cocoons the music and crafts a lovely, lilting vibe. It makes the worries of the world float away, enabling the listener to just luxuriate in the message of the song and really immerse themselves into whatever Christmas means to them.
