1990 had been a great year for youthful singer-songwriter Tommy Page. He had topped the US Billboard Hot 100 with his dreamy single, I'll Be Your Everything, and found ongoing success with his sophomore album, Paintings In My Mind. Whilst subsequent singles from that album hadn't reached the giddy heights of the album's chart topping lead single, he had built a sizeable and ardent fan base across the world who were eager for new music from the talented fella. As the year came to a close, his record label quietly released a cassette single of the album's title track - one of his finest compositions to date (see here). The real draw, however, was a brand new Christmas song - the lush ballad You Make Christmas Feel Like Heaven. His previous festive entry (1988's Christmas Without You) had been a lilting yet melancholy gem so it was nice to see Tommy celebrate finding that special someone at the most wonderful time of the year. Chiming keyboard melodies cascade round Tommy's voice like tinsel draped around the tree as he sings with a sweet sincerity. The verses shimmer with seasonal cheer and when the percussion is layered into the chorus, it elevates the radiant chorus like the brightest star in the sky. The middle 8 blends into a choral version of Silent Night which then seamlessly transitions back to a sumptuous and harmonious finale of that heart-warming chorus. Still glorious all these years later.
