Well Christmas 2020 is the gift which keeps on giving. Not only is there a plethora of sparkling new seasonal music coming at us like a magical snow flurry of holiday playlist goodness, we are treated to a second brand new Kelly Clarkson Christmas single. All I Want For Christmas Is You is a cover of the 1989 Vince Vance classic (itself a sort-of remake of Bobby Vinton's My Heart Belongs Only To You). Kelly takes the much loved country music hit and infuses it with a bluesy vibe that suits her expressive voice perfectly. She takes the lyrics that are so full of plaintive longing and makes them sound like they were always waiting for her to sing. The thing about Ms Clarkson is that, while respectful of the source material, she knows how to bend each note in a song to her will. It makes for a mesmerising listen, particularly when she gives a little flourish of melisma and slides along the notes like kids skating gracefully on ice. This revitalises a well known song and makes it a new, timeless gem all over again. Add into your holiday playlist now...
