Last year, Kadiatou pondered what it would be like to spend Christmas Night Without You (whilst also dreaming of a White Christmas). So lilting were her mistletoe melodic musings that I hoped her sojourn into seasonal songs would become an annual event. It's beginning to look a lot like this is a possibility as the singer has two gorgeous new interpretations of songs out for 2021. First up is a charming take on It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas which is reinterpreted as a lush ballad that lets every descriptive lyric linger like a snowflake on the nose. A music-box piano accompaniment lets Kadiatou's expressive voice bring a new magic to the instantly familiar words; meanwhile, a gentle gradient of shimmering percussion and finger clicks, jingling bells and chimes wraps around you like a hug from an old friend. 

While you are busy revelling in Kadiatou's sterling re-telling of that song, she's also determined to move on from that Christmas Night Without You. Her cathartic take on the Wham! classic, Last Christmas, feels like a natural extension of It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas; a stripped back instrumental with delicious keyboard accompaniment and a sprightly groove. It is as if she refuses to let the hurt control her anymore - that the onset of the most wonderful time of the year has given her new resolve to move on. Her voice ranges from melancholic reflections to a tangible hope for a better Christmas this year. It is beautifully produced and complements the original rather than trying to replace it. Now if she wants to cover It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year next year, then I will get my pre-order/pre-save in now...
