One of my favourite things about writing this countdown to Christmas through new music each year is that I revisit the artist songs/albums from previous years - and then check whether they have new Christmas music out. More often than not, they do - and Matthew West is one such artist who has a prolific back catalogue of holiday music that he (thankfully) keeps adding to. Following on from last year's We Need Christmas opus, Matthew delivers another gorgeous and inspiration holiday song that fits seamlessly as an extra track on your We Need Christmas playlist. Come Home for Christmas begins with chiming keyboard as Matthew sings about how we often lose that childlike wide-eyed wonder for the season that we have when we are young. The cynicism of the world creeps in but there is always some magic and sparkle to be found if you are just willing to look at things another way. A lush wall of sound gives the song its power and crescendo, swathing Matthew's vocal in a joyful and triumphant score. While it is most definitely a metaphor for finding your faith again, it works equally well for those who just might want to seek comfort in their family and friends.
