One of my favourite things about writing this countdown to Christmas through new music each year is that I revisit the artist songs/albums from previous years - and then check whether they have new Christmas music out. More often than not, they do - and aces a cappella group, Straight No Chaser, are one such artist who has a prolific back catalogue of holiday music that they (thankfully) keeps adding to. Following on from two years of promoting Social Christamasing, the lads have returned with a sparkly new uptempo number called Christmas Night With You. Written and arranged by Freedom Young, it details the disappointment of not being able to spend the most wonderful time of the year with your boo (and who knows more about this than Santa and Mrs Claus) - and all the tinsel-tastic ways you might make it up to her/him. There are jingling bells, finger-click grooves (as peppy as any sleigh ride) and fa-la-la harmonies that take the sting out the message they are delivering. Those arrangements are as slick as a professionally wrapped gift, bringing a little magic to the soaring vocal while a middle-8 rap is the icing on this already delicious cake. Looking at SNC's tour schedule (a live show the day after Thanksgiving), you get the impression they may be singing this to their loved ones a few times this holiday season - all so they can delight their myriad of fans!
