Hazell Dean - Suddenly Love Came Around

20 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!

To paraphrase Billy Mack in Love, Actually, wouldn't it be great if the Christmas Number One this year wasn't some terrible sausage roll related pun of a song but an actual original song that would be your favourite future Christmas oldie? For years they've been dominated - first by X-Factor winners (though That's My Goal by Shayne Ward was quite good), then by charity choirs and now by a week-long only phenomenon known as Ladbaby. I'm not saying don't give to charity (please do continue to give - particularly directly to the charities themselves) just that there are other musical options out there to restore some competition and dignity to the Christmas number one race. One such song is the very charming indeed seasonal ballad, Suddenly Love Came Around, from hi-NRG icon, Hazell Dean.

This lovely song is all about the redemptive, transformative power of love - and the shimmering of jingle bells makes it feel particularly pertinent to the most wonderful time of the year (and all the more poignant for aren't emotions heightened during the holiday period). Sweeping strings and a heart-beat percussion swathe Hazell's warm tones in a lush score that only serves to enhance the magic and sparkle of the lyrics. In a way, it is a little Carpenters-esque; a sound that manages to be both timeless and timely. There are nice touches too, like the layered approach to vocal moments that really infuse the words with emphasis and power - proving not everything has to be belted to the rafters to have an impact. Guaranteed to bring you comfort and joy this and many other seasons to come.
