In his annual audition to be the next Santa Claus, Mateo Oxley continues to put out exquisite acoustic gems of your well known and lesser known Christmas favourites. After giving us Mistletoe in 2020 and then Even More Mistletoe in 2021, Mateo has stopped the festive smooching this year and just wants to cuddle up for a Cosy Little Christmas (via his take on the Katy Perry song). By slowing the tempo ever so slightly and just letting a buoyant piano (and some shimmering bells) accompany his singing, Mateo makes the song a personal story. He is the most melodic and engaging raconteur, infusing every note with just the right amount of personality and vigour to make it sparkle as brightly as the star on top of the most ornate tree. It is an enchanting three minutes of your time, enveloping you in an aural hug that lingers long after the music has faded away. As long as Mateo keeps making these charming Christmas covers, I'll keep writing about them. If not Santa Claus, he's surely a shoe-in for head Elf...
