As well as being my Christmas party ensemble style gurus, Modern Gentlemen continue to make it feel like Christmas two years after they released their (hopefully first) holiday album. They are back this year with the very charming indeed Old Fashioned Christmas - a song that is both timeless and timely in its message and execution. With the always delightful Jim Brickman taking piano duties, it is a romantic number that takes you back to the happiest days - a lush keyboard melody swathed in a shuffling percussion that suits those beautifully layered vocals just wonderfully. The gentlemen sing of the simplicity of Christmases gone by, whether it be Andy Williams or Johnny Mathis on the radio; and their sincerity and heartfelt nature shines through on every note and harmony. Like a long lost song traversing the passages of time from some forgotten radio show, it feels comfortable and familiar whilst giving you something enchanting and new for your Yuletide playlist. Magic and sparkle.
