Michael Buble & Sofronio Vasquez - Maybe This Christmas

32 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!

Michael Buble is so synonymous with Christmas that I'm pretty sure every year he is auditioning to be the next Santa Claus. Following last year's duet on a new song (Maybe This Christmas) with Carly Pearce, he rewards The Voice USA winner, Sofronio Vasquez, with the opportunity to sing that very same song with him. And that's ace because a Christmas song is for life, not just the year it is released - and Sofronio brings his own nuanced take to the future classic. There's something quite enchanting about the song being sung in both English and Tagalog, weaving together two languages into one charming song. Lyrically, it tackles the isolation and loneliness that feels all the more pronounced when bombarded with images and songs of couples and families. Their voices draped in elegant piano, shuffling percussion and graceful strings, their duet becomes a long distant love affair. Both sing individually of the sorrow the miles between them (metaphorically or geographically) bring - Michael sings with tender longing, whilst Sofronio's smooth tones add a sense of melancholy to this stark tale. However, it is all so melodically beautiful that you can't help but feel the singing of these feelings will perhaps help two wounded hearts heal. And when they sing together it is like honey melting into hot chocolate. Lovely.
