The Dave Harris Project ft Michael Willett - Christmas Letter

It's no secret that I adore Michael Willett, star of MTV's wickedly good comedy Faking It - his previously collaboration with The Dave Harris Project (Burning Desire - see review link above) was of the very good type of song so I was excited to see that they'd teamed up again for a song themed to my favourite time of year. Christmas Letter has Michael looking like a renegade angel on the cover art and sees him reveal on vulnerable yearning side of his personality on the song itself. Set to a lovely languid piano riff backed with shuffling shimmering chimes, Michael delivers a sweetly earnest vocal that is tinged with melancholy yet also a conviction that gives the song it's heart and optimism. There's a tenderness to the chorus which continues into a second vocally textured chorus that is manna from the pop gods. Some electric guitar accentuates the heightened emotion of the song while elegiac strings swirl around the instrumental to give a timeless, elegant aura that's all too difficult to resist. Mister Willett guides the song's mellifluous melody forward with his compelling singing style with just the right amount of festive acrouement added to the instrumental to bring the sentiment of the lyrics into vivid focus. It's a splending lilting tale that feels like it could endure long past Christmas and well into the new year.
