One should never underestimate Spencer's contribution to my (and many many others) holiday playlists. From his festive duet with Scooch's Natalie Powers through to his A Very Spencer Christmas album and one off tracks like the gorgeous Somewhere In My Memory, he has bought sparkle and shine to the season. His latest album, Suspense, isn't a Christmas album but is full of pop baubles that will make your Yule merry and bright. One of those lends itself perfectly to the most wonderful time of the year - and now A Winter Spell has been remixed by the always splendid 7th Heaven as Spencer's Christmas single. The original version on the album is a real treat - Spencer (alongside Pete Hammond) conjures up a shimmering percussive groove (as exhilarating as any sleigh ride) whilst singing of the power of love, nostalgia and longing; how we often immerse ourselves into happier times and try to recreate them. It is the powerful lure of these mesmerising moments which Spencer sings of so vividly. He's aided by a soaring chorus that magically stays in your head long after the song has finished. The 7th Heaven remix is equally as rewarding - they use vibrant synth chords which bring to mind Jason Donovan's (grossly underrated) Nothing Can Divide Us, decadent keyboard riffs which dance around chiming bells like snowflakes on a breeze and enhance the sing-along refrain to gleefully giddy new heights. What is really wizard about the remix is its ability to get you dancing wherever you are, sending your spirits soaring. Aces.
