Read my review of Lockie's original song, Stargazer, here (myfizzypop)

He's sung it before as part of The Overtones, but Lockie Chapman's new take on the Chris Rea classic (Driving Home For Christmas) feels like a whole new world. The intricate, beautiful cover art gives you the tiniest hint of the musical experience which lies ahead of you - a stark landscape with the illumination of the moon guiding you (like a cosmic SatNav) to what your heart desires. You really get the sense that Lockie has immersed himself in the lyrics and music of the original, deconstructed it back to its architectural blueprints and then reimagined it channelling it through his own experiences. The opening piano notes make it feel like a music box playing a lullaby; it is fragile and delicate which matches the poignant pathos in Lockie's hushed vocal. The piano chords become more prominent, as does Lockie's singing - as if he is drawing power from the words he sings and letting the hope of the titular actions boost his spirits. There are some truly lovely production moments - the addition of a whispered harmony as he sings "I'll get through and I feel you near me"; the shimmering brass sounds that cascade like a mist on the horizon. Ultimately, it is the symbiotic partnership of voice, instrument and wonderfully crafted lyrics that make you feel every emotion in this mesmerising song. Just lovely.
