John Legend has certainly earned his Christmas credentials. Whether it be duetting with festive favourites like Mariah Carey and Nat King Cole, or singing his own selection of seasonal songs (on A Legendary Christmas), the soulful crooner always puts his heart and soul into crafting a lasting soundtrack to the most wonderful time of the year. On his latest holiday bop, he has written (alongside co-writer Meghan Trainor) a love letter to both love and the joy of giving to loved ones at Christmas. You Deserve It All starts off as a lullaby ballad, the type where you can sense the chorus just waiting to sparkle and that is exactly where Raphael Saadiq's production takes it. The enthusiasm in John's vocal cannot be contained and the music tempo gently blossoms into a finger clicking, shoulder shimmying groove. Strings cascade like icicles, whilst sassy horns give a blast of attitude and cooing backing vocalists are angelic bliss. By the time the song reaches its joyful, triumphant finale there is so much detail and texture in John's voice and the score that you can't wait to listen all over again.
