Every year that I undertake my 60 day countdown to Christmas by highlighting new holiday music, I naturally come across a multitude of new songs and albums that are destined to become my future favourite oldies. Whilst all of them make me glad from head to mistletoe, the discovery of The Voice album, Isla Croll's Please Come Back For Christmas is definitely making me feel extra sparkle jolly twinkle jingly. Her dazzling new song, Please Come Back For Christmas, is an instant toe tapper with an effusive wall of sound instrumental that wouldn't sound out of place next to brilliant Yuletide songs like Mariah's All I Want For Christmas Is You, Darlene Love's All Alone on Christmas and/or Leona Lewis' One More Sleep. Jingling bells, an ebullient orchestral score and a percussion as propulsive as Santa's reindeers pulling the sleigh make this vibrant and glittering. Writer Alex Martin's lyrics are a juxtaposition to this - highlighting the yearning we all feel to be reunited with lost loved ones at the most one wonderful time of the year. Isla sings it with such passion and longing that you can't help but feel she is going to get this one wish granted (while the rest of us all sing along to that ear worm of a chorus). To make it even more enchanting, check out the heart-wrenching/warming video - the best animated feature since the Bear and Hare Christmas Ad for John Lewis back in 2013.
