Well, this is a treat and a half isn't it? Exactly a year after I discovered Amanda Shires via her still very delightful album, For Christmas, she's back with another festive song for your Yuletide enjoyment. On the blissfully romantic Blame It On The Mistletoe Christmassy, Amanda has once again teamed up with Lawrence Rothman (who was such an integral part of last year's seasonal set) to craft a holiday ballad so vivid you will get goosebumps. Set to sumptuous piano chords and a pulsing percussion (which serves as the beating heart of the song), Amanda sings of the surprise of finding love at the most wonderful time of the year - with glorious gospel harmonies preaching the sermon of their union to one and all. Descriptive, clever bon mots ("you wrapped around me like a bow") give this some lip-biting sensuality, but it is the utter joy of the message that makes this sparkle brighter than the lights on the tree. An absolute triumphant that should be your new favourite future oldie for many years to come. Hopefully see you again this time next year Amanda (though I'll be enjoying your non-Christmas songs in between)!
