As someone who reviews new Christmas albums, EPs and singles for 60 days of the year, I still find something so magical about discovering acts I haven't hitherto known about. It's even more special when they are recommended to me - particularly when it is by a musical luminary such as Steve Anderson (who only produced a good portion of the Kylie Christmas album - no.1 in the UK this very week)! Decorate for Christmas by Tamzene was that very recommendation - a beautifully crafted, intimate insight into how the season can create moments that bring people together, united in a scene of hope (even if that scene only lasts as long as the song). It is a down tempo study in exquisitely fragile piano that is enhanced by a shimmering of strings to accompany what can only be described as honestly hopeful lyrical Christmas mood swings. In two minutes, Tamzene creates an unspoken back story of a relationship that needs some care and attention, one that could rekindle magic if only they worked in harmony to invest in some festive tree trimming (with a promise of stolen kisses under the mistletoe). The vocal is both wistful and wonderful, making this story sparkle brighter than the lights around the most ornate of windows...
